Paul Merson has predicted that Tottenham will win 2-1 against Leicester when the two sides meet at Wembley on Sunday.

Spurs have won their last three Premier League fixtures and could go within two points of Manchester City and Liverpool, who are level on points in first and second place respectively, if results go their way this weekend.

Leicester are currently 11th in the league, and despite Merson talking up the Foxes’ dangerous attacking players, he believes that Tottenham will have enough about them to earn three points in this game.

“This will be a hard game for Spurs as Leicester have been competing and doing well against the big teams – those sides have a go at them and they can counterattack with the pace of Jamie Vardy, while you also have James Maddison and Demarai Gray in support,” he said on the Sky Sports website.

“However, despite this being a tough test, I do still see Spurs falling over the line again… they keep on winning, which is the main thing for them – you do not get any extra points for winning 6-0.”

OPINION

It is hard to see anything but a Tottenham win in this game. Mauricio Pochettino has got his men over their winter slump and with Heung-min Son back in the side, Spurs have a great chance of getting the goals needed to win. Not having Harry Kane and Dele Alli is still a blow and it will certainly make things harder for the London club, but they still have enough quality all over the pitch to win against Leicester. Claude Puel’s side has had a strange few weeks. They have been knocked out of the FA Cup by Newport County, lost to 10-man Southampton, lost 4-3 to Wolves, but managed to earn a 1-1 draw against Liverpool and almost salvaged a point in their 1-0 loss to Man United. They are doing well against the bigger teams, but they aren’t getting the goals they need to pull off a win.
