Allan McGregor will serve a two-match ban after the Rangers goalkeeper lost his appeal against the Scottish FA’s ruling on Wednesday, according to the Glasgow Evening Times.

The newspaper claims that McGregor, 36, attended a hearing at Hampden Park to try and reverse a citation for a challenge on Aberdeen star Lewis Ferguson at Pittodrie last week.

Referee Bobby Madden failed to punish the Scotland international during the game but compliance officer Clare Whyte has found that the ex-Hull man deserved a two-game suspension despite his personal appeal on Wednesday.

OPINION

This is the correct decision and finally the Scottish FA have got a decision correct after weeks of awful calls. What McGregor did to Ferguson was dangerous. He planted his studs into the Aberdeen player’s leg when there was no need at all for him to even stick his leg anywhere near him. It’s not the first time that McGregor has done something similar this season but for whatever reason the Scottish FA failed to dish out any sort of retrospective action. Maybe if there wasn’t such a furore about decision-making among Scottish officials in the last week or so then McGregor might have gotten away with it again. Wes Foderingham will come in for Rangers now for their games against St Johnstone and Kilmarnock. Foderingham is a good goalkeeper but he will be rusty, having only made the odd few appearances this season. Could that lead to a couple of poor results? If it does then Steven Gerrard will be furious with McGregor.
