OPINION
Manchester United made tough work of a match that they should really have buried against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon. After taking an early lead, the Reds laboured away to a 1-0 win that, in truth, could have gone either way in the end. Several players looked a little off colour, but none more so than Jesse Lingard, who struggled to make any kind of impact for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. The England international has looked positive since the Norwegian took over at Old Trafford, and he’s shown that he can be a valuable member of an attacking lineup that has found a renewed sense of urgency and fluidity, but against the Foxes he looked out of sorts, and gave away possession far too often. More than anything, the 26-year-old looked tired, and it was a surprise that he was able to last as long as he did, before being hauled off for Phil Jones to provide some kind of defensive solidity late on. Lingered clearly has a role to play for United, but at times he still seems to lack the maturity you would expect of an international in their mid-20s. Hopefully that will come with time, and until does, he will continue to put in these sporadic lacklustre performances.
