Leeds United could play an absolute blinder in the summer transfer window if they are able to sign Motherwell sensation Jake Hastie on a cut-price deal.

According to the Daily Record, the 19-year-old forward “could be up for grabs” at the end of the season with his current deal at Fir Park set to expire.

While it is understood that there have been talks about the Steelmen tying Hastie down to a new deal, the two parties are “some distance” away from finalising an agreement.

That could of course play into Leeds’ hands after it was reported that the Yorkshire club has sent a scout to keep close tabs on the teenager.

Marcelo Bielsa was widely-reported to be in the hunt to sign Daniel James from Swansea in January, and it seems as though the Argentine has sent his recruitment experts across the UK to take a look at similarly aged players who play in the same position as the Wales international.

Leeds would definitely have liked what they saw from Hastie on Wednesday night anyway, when the 19-year-old scored a wondergoal in Motherwell’s 2-1 win against St Mirren.

BT Sport pundit Stephen Craigan was blown away by the goal, dubbing it as a “goal of the season contender” and a “wordly” via his personal Twitter account during the Scottish Premiership fixture.

Hastie spend the first half of this season on loan at Alloa in the Scottish Championship, but since returning to Motherwell he has been in red-hot form by scoring three goals and supplying one assist in four league appearances.

During his run of games in Stephen Robinson’s senior squad, Motherwell have won four out of four league fixtures, with Hastie playing both up front as a centre-forward or on the left-wing.

When young players are so versatile and so adaptable they can go on to be something big and considering the ‘Well teenager is making a name for himself in top-flight football, Leeds would definitely be on the right track if they signed him this summer.

Victor Orta will surely have to get Bielsa’s approval to make the move for Hastie, but considering the potential low cost, the high potential and his current run of form, the Whites boss simply cannot say no to this sensational young talent.
