Matt Le Tissier was blown away by Pontus Jansson after his clearing header basically sealed Leeds United’s 2-1 win against Bolton at Elland Road on Saturday.

The Whites had to defend a last-minute corner by the away side, but it was headed away from danger beautifully by Jansson, who has been one of the best defenders in the Championship this season.

Le Tissier was commentating on the final moments of the game as Bolton took their corner, and he was thrilled with how well Jansson managed to defend Leeds’ goal just before the final whistle was blown.

“We’re into added time on top of the added time,” said Le Tissier during his commentary of the game on Sky Sports News on Saturday [Gillette Soccer Saturday, 04:57pm].

“Gary O’Neill’s going to whip this corner in, in it comes.

“A towering header by Pontus Jansson, what a bit of defending that is.

“And the final whistle goes, Leeds win 2-1.”

OPINION

Jansson has been an absolute beast in the heart of the Leeds defence this season. The Sweden international has made 28 appearances across all competitions for the Whites this term and has impressed in near enough all of them. Leeds are definitely a better team when the Sweden international is involved, especially when he plays alongside Liam Cooper. Marcelo Bielsa does see his side concede goals but that seems to be more part and parcel of the way they play, more than the fact that the defenders aren’t playing well enough. Jansson is a player with Premier League quality and it is super important that the Yorkshire giants win promotion this term because they will surely struggle to keep hold of him in the summer if they do not go up. Leeds have never been closer to promotion from the Championship. They need to see this out, not only because Jansson deserves to be in the top-flight, but because this club is too big to be in the second-tier.
