Leeds chief executive Angus Kinnear has delivered a positive update on Jack Clarke after the young Leeds attacker was taken ill during the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Clarke played the first 45 minutes but collapsed towards the end of the game, and was taken to hospital after being treated on the sidelines.

Talking on West Yorkshire Sport Daily on BBC Radio Leeds (Wednesday, 6pm), Kinnear revealed that Clarke was “happy” and that Leeds were now looking to get him back in training and on the pitch as soon as possible.

“He’s in good shape now,” Kinnear said. “He’s happy, he’s smiling and he’s recuperating and he’s in the best possible hands.

“But, the situation isn’t serious, we’re just looking to get him back on his feet, back in training and then back on the pitch as soon as possible.

“If you’re going to have an incident like that there’s probably no better place than on the bench, next to the head of medicine and performance and the club doctor, with a team of paramedics on hand.”

Phil Hay, senior reporter from the Yorkshire Evening Post, also chipped in with his opinion on Clarke on the show.

“Obviously the major concern was what had happened and why it had happened. We’ve all seen more instances than we would care of players suffering sudden cardiac arrest and it’s hard not to think of that when you think of Clarke, who’s young and very fit.

“I think the club will take the time to bring him back and they will want to do more tests to make sure that he’s fully recovered. It was very concerning. They will need to be very careful before they bring him back to the fold.”
