Rangers midfielder Greg Docherty was taken to hospital on Saturday after complaining about blurred vision in Shrewsbury’s 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.

Docherty, 22, has been in superb form while on loan at the English League One club, but his game was cut short this weekend after being hit in the face by the ball.

According to the Shropshire Star, the vehicle that Docherty went to the hospital in was hit by objects as it left the Memorial Stadium, something which Shrews boss Sam Ricketts was not happy to hear about.

“Doch had some bleeding in his eye, he wanted to carry on. But as it went on he started to struggle with vision,” said Ricketts, as quoted by the Shropshire Star.

“Doch’s left early to go to the eye hospital. I’m a bit disappointed with how the vehicle was treated taking him with objects thrown when they’re trying to leave the ground and get to hospital.

“That’s disappointing. Hopefully he’ll be OK.”

OPINION

Hopefully Docherty is fine and is able to return to action fairly soon, but a bleed in his eye does not sound very nice and it could see him forced to miss a couple of games before it heals up. The 22-year-old has been in great form since joining Shrewsbury on a season-long loan in the summer and there’s every chance that he will return to Ibrox in the summer ready to force his way into the first team. The former Hamilton midfielder definitely has the potential and the passion to be able to make it as a Rangers player, but Steven Gerrard has to find a place for him in what is an increasingly bloated midfield. Glen Kamara and Steven Davis were both signed in the January transfer window and while Davis is only on loan from Southampton at the moment, that deal could become permanent in the summer. Lassana Coulibaly is also on loan at Ibrox, but there’s still going to be a lot of competition for Docherty once he is back in Glasgow.
