West Brom could have Ahmed Hegazi available for their clash against Leeds United on Friday night – which is bad news for the Elland Road club.

The Express & Star reported on Wednesday that Hegazi, 28, was a doubt for Albion’s trip to Elland Road this week due to an ankle injury that forced him off the pitch in their 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United last Saturday.

It was understood that the centre-back had missed out on the upcoming Egypt squad for the international break in March, leading to fears about his fitness.

However an update on the BBC Sport website now says that Hegazi is likely to be fit for West Brom when they take on Leeds, which is news that the entire United fanbase should be tearing their hair out over.

Hegazi has been superb for West Brom this season, especially away from home.

Darren Moore’s side has the best away record in the Championship, and that is largely down to how well the Egypt international defends when the Baggies are playing on the road.

Even at The Hawthorns, Hegazi has been crucial for Albion.

He has made 32 appearances across all competitions this season and West Brom have failed to win in any of the five Championship games he has missed.

If Hegazi was out of the clash against Leeds on Friday then it would be fair to say that the Yorkshire club would have increased odds of winning.

It is fact that Albion do not win in the league without their towering defender, but for Moore to potentially have him available for them this week is a massive boost for the Black Country club – and a major blow for Leeds.
