Leeds winger Robbie Gotts is set to sign a new contract with the club this week, according to chief executive Angus Kinnear.

Talking on BBC Radio Leeds (Wednesday, 6pm), Kinnear said there was a plan in place for everyone at the club and that most contract renewals would be done at the end of the season.

However, he confirmed that 19-year-old Gotts would sign a new contract this week, with his current deal set to expire in June.

“There’s a plan for everybody at the club,” said Kinnear.

“The over-arching principle was to focus on this season and then look at renewals at the end of the season. Robbie [Gotts] will be signing a new contract this week and he has a very exciting future.”

Great news for Leeds, although the player that fans really want the club to tie down is Kemar Roofe. Their striker has been on-fire this season and his current contract runs out in the summer of 2020. That means he’ll be entering the last year of his contract if Leeds get promoted up to the Premier League. It makes sense on many levels though, with the club and the player being in a much better position to negotiate when they know what level they’ll be playing at. If it’s the Premier League then Roofe can expect a real boost to his current terms, at least on a level with summer signing Patrick Bamford. Gotts’ case is more urgent as he’s out of contract in the summer and Leeds won’t want to lose him. Thankfully, it sounds like he doesn’t want to leave Leeds and will put pen to paper imminently. The future of Leeds is bright, with players like Gotts, Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton. They could all make a mark in the Premier League for their side next season under manager Marcelo Bielsa.
