Don Goodman was blown away by Rekeem Harper after the teenager struck the crossbar with a volley in West Brom’s 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night.

Harper, 18, almost scored a goal of the season contender when his volley crashed against the woodwork in the second-half of the all-Midlands encounter.

Ex-West Brom and Wolves forward Goodman was waxing lyrical about the midfielder after his strike at goal, claiming it was “perfect” even though it did not hit the back of the net.

“What a glorious strike,” said Goodman, as shown on Sky Sports‘ website.

“Absolutely brilliant. You can’t do anymore than what he’s done.

“Everything about it is absolutely perfect, it just doesn’t dip in time.”

OPINION

Harper was West Brom’s best player on the pitch on Tuesday night, which is hardly a compliment given how average some of the Albion players performed against Forest. Darren Moore’s side was flat, wasteful in possession and were lucky to walk away with a point as there was no way that was a penalty in the final phases of the game. Albion are definitely missing Harvey Barnes’ impact while it was also clear that they missed injured pair Matt Phillips and Ahmed Hegazi, as well as Gareth Barry from the off. Harper started slowly in the game but flourished as time progressed. It would be have been a goal to remember if that volley found the back of the Forest net, but unfortunately it was just too high. Goodman rarely has a good word to say about West Brom, so it is good to hear him being positive about an exciting young player like Harper.
