Dwight Gayle has been drooling over the “sensational” assist by Ahmed Hegazi that helped him score the winner in West Brom’s 1-0 triumph over Stoke on Saturday.

Albion maintained their impressive away form by earning three points at the Bet365 over the weekend courtesy of Gayle’s first-half header that came after a perfectly-worked free-kick routine.

Stefan Johansen’s delicate ball into the penalty area was volleyed into the six-yard box by Hegazi so that Gayle could nod home past Jack Butland.

And the Newcastle United loanee cannot get enough of the 27-year-old Egyptian’s technique.

“It was almost the perfect free-kick,” said Gayle, as quoted by the Express & Star.

“We worked on it in training during the week and it worked perfectly.

“The touch from Ahmed is sensational, especially from a centre-half.

“He showed some great technique on what is his weaker foot and I’m grateful for it.”

OPINION

Hegazi has been one of West Brom’s best players this season, and definitely one of the most improved. The Egypt international struggled to get to grips with the Premier League last season as Albion suffered relegation, but he has flourished in the competitive and physical nature of the Championship, especially alongside Craig Dawson in the defence. It was arguably one of Hegazi’s finest performances in a West Brom shirt against Stoke at the weekend. Not only did he supply his first assist as a Baggies player, but he was also a force to be reckoned with at the back, ensuring that the Potters attack had next to no real efforts on goal. West Brom showcased their devastating attack in the first-half of the season but now they are showing their ruthless nature in defence, and that is showing that this a team that has the ability to be promoted. Gayle and Jay Rodriguez are bound to get goals, so keeping it solid at the back means that Albion should win plenty more games.
