With Alfredo Morelos set to make a return from his suspension over the coming week Rangers fans will no doubt be feeling a huge sense of relief after watching their side struggle to fashion anything up top without the Colombian.

Banned for three games, the South American ace’s absence has hit Steven Gerrard’s side hard with two shutouts coming against Kilmarnock and St Johnstone – the only saving grace being that they managed to keep their opponents at bay in two 0-0 draws.

However, despite their lack of cutting edge up front Wes Foderingham does not believe the Light Blues are overly reliant on the striker – but the 28-year-old shot stopper is living in dreamland if he truly believes that after the last two showings.

He told the Daily Record: “We aren’t too reliant on him but he is a top, top player. Anybody would miss a player of his quality.

“When he’s in the side, he’s scoring goals and is just a fantastic footballer so he is obviously going to improve what we are doing on the pitch. But we have decent cover to put on a lot better showing that the one we gave on Saturday.”

Jermain Defoe might be a wonderful poacher up front but he does not have the same impact as Morelos when it comes to terrorising defences and the truth of the matter is that Rangers rely on him to make something happen when they are struggling.

More often than not he lives up to expectations and his goal record this season proves just how influential he has been.

Foderingham is being pretty diplomatic with his verdict on the rest of the Ibrox squad – but there is no shame in admitting that they are totally reliant on Morelos for their attacking needs. The sooner he is back, the better for Rangers.
