The Football League board have decided that they will continue to look into Leeds United’s spygate controversy that has embroiled the Championship club over the last month.

It appears as though the EFL are yet to decide on whether or not Leeds broke any rules after one of Marcelo Bielsa’s staff members was caught spying at Derby County’s training ground in January.

Associated Press journalist Rob Harris shared an EFL statement to give an update on the controversy via his personal Twitter account on Friday.

“It was determined that there remain a number of areas that require further exploration and clarification and these investigations will take place at the earliest opportunity.”

OPINION

It seems like the wait is going to go on before the EFL decide on whether or not they will punish Leeds United for this controversy. The whole issue has been rumbling on for quite some time now and while it is unlikely to be having an affect on Bielsa and his players, the whole club will surely just want this to be over and done with. At the end of the day, there’s no rule that specifically says that there is anything wrong with spying on opponents, however it could be deemed as being something that is against the spirit of the game and the clubs that have signed the letter to the EFL will surely be raising the pressure on the governing body. What else is there to investigate that the EFL surely hasn’t already covered? It is definitely in a grey area but if they haven’t been able to agree that it is punishment-worthy now, then will they ever? Leeds’ rivals will be waiting just an anxiously as they are to see what comes of this.
