Matt Doherty does not appear to have suffered a serious injury in Wolves’ 1-0 FA Cup win against Bristol City on Sunday, according to Express & Star journalist Tim Spiers.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account after the fifth round clash at Ashton Gate that Doherty, 27, gave a thumbs up and said that he is “ok” as he left Bristol City’s ground.

Doherty has been a key player for Wolves this season and assisted Ivan Cavaleiro’s goal in the win against the Robins, but he was forced off in the 81st minute due to an injury.

OPINION

Doherty has arguably been Wolves’ best player this season, scoring six goals and supplying seven assists for them in 31 appearances across all competitions, so for him to pick up a lengthy injury setback would be a major blow for the club. The Republic of Ireland international did not seem too comfortable after he was taken off on Sunday, so there is a chance that he could miss the trip to Bournemouth next week if there is anything to worry about. However judging by this update, Doherty should be fine in the long run and there is very little to worry about. Doherty has been one of the best right-backs in the Premier League this term, but if Nuno Espirito Santo gave him a weekend off next week there should not be much harm done. Wolves should finish in the seventh place in the Premier League, no lower and no higher, so resting players would be a good idea as the FA Cup now becomes the main priority.
