OPINION
Eden Hazard is a very, very special footballer. The little Belgian, on his day, is capable of making a mockery of any defence in the world, and that’s no exaggeration. At times in the Carabao Cup final he looked genuinely unplayable, running rings around Manchester City’s backline and leaving them looking entirely dumbfounded on more than one occasion. It was an incredible performance from an incredible player, but it also highlighted a much more worrying issue for the Blues. For all of Hazard’s wizardry and poise, there were times when he looked so far above the wavelength of his teammates that it was almost embarrassing. On a couple of occasions, the forward singlehandedly picked his way through Manchester City’s defence before laying gilded chances on a plate for his colleagues, only to see them waste the opportunity. It is little wonder that Hazard is repeatedly linked with a move to one of Europe’s top top clubs, and on the showing of his outing at Wembley on Sunday afternoon, it would be completely justified if he did walk away. Hazard can only do so much on his own, and unless his teammates take a leaf out of his book and massively up their game, Chelsea are going to struggle to satisfy his ambitions.
