When Leeds striker Patrick Bamford responded to a parody account on Twitter, he kicked off a huge thread that has since been graced by the Times chief football writer, Henry Winter.

It all kicked off on Twitter when Parody Bamford posted a message ribbing the Leeds striker for being posh.

Bamford himself responded, which fans loved, and then Winter came on to heap praise on Bamford.

He said the 25-year-old was a “serious talent”, called him “one of the game’s characters” and said it was “great to see him back in form, scoring, creating.” He finished it off with a play on the original message, saying he had “many strings to his bow.”

OPINION

Winter is one of the football media’s heavyweights and it’s great to see him wade into the hilarious Paddy Bamford thread with a message of his own. He’s obviously a big fan of Bamford both on and off the pitch, and he had some serious praise for the 25-year-old. Bamford had to wait for his chance at Leeds after a serious injury but the weight of their promotion hopes are now on his shoulders, after Kemar Roofe was sidelined until April at the earliest. Bamford has scored two in his last four games but he was also guilty of missing chances on Saturday that would have made the game a lot easier for Marcelo Bielsa and the fans. He needs to score a lot more of the chances he gets between now and the end of the season, starting when he leads the line at Loftus Road on Tuesday night.
