Aston Villa have fought off competition from AC Milan in order to retain the services of Mungo Bridge, according to The People.

The national newspaper’s print edition (Sunday February 17th page 52) stated that the Serie A giants were willing to match whatever the Villans had offered the 18-year-old defender, but he had opted to stay at Villa Park instead.

Bridge has been a regularly feature of the Villans’ U-18s team this season and has made six appearances in the U18 Premier League.

OPINION

The Villans have several potential stars of the future lurking in their youth academy and it’s a testament to Bridge’s talent that AC Milan were sniffing around. Also the fact they were just not circling him but that were willing to match his Villans contract. Many a youngster would have had their head turned if AC Milan came calling for them, so it’s great to hear that Bridge chose to stay at Villa Park. Dean Smith’s side may not be doing great in the Championship this season currently, especially in regards to the fact their promotion chances continue to get slimmer and slimmer, so it is nice to actually hear some positive news emerging for the Villans to cling on to. While Bridge is probably still miles away from breaking into the Villain’s first-team, after hearing that AC Milan were keen, there will no doubt be some supporters keeping tabs on him from here on out.
