OPINION
Aston Villa midfielder Conor Hourihane certainly didn’t have his finest outing in the first half against Brentford on Wednesday night. The Republic of Ireland international was extremely sloppy in possession, especially early on, giving the hosts the ball and allowing them to dominate proceedings at Griffin Park. There were precious few good performers for Villa in the opening period and Hourihane certainly wasn’t one of them. The visitors were on the back foot from the word go and it was the lacklustre displays of players like Hourihane that was the cause of that. He’s in the team to provide a bit of creativity and technical excellence in the middle of the park, but there was none of that in the first half here. Villa supporters can only hope that he improves after the break because this was a dismal first 45 minutes from the former Barnsley man. The only way is up and all that…

Hutton and Taylor get stick but I’m honestly not sure I’ve ever been less impressed with a Villa regular than I am with Hourihane. Sure he’s a nice guy and tries… but so limited on the ball. #avfc
