Celtic legend Chris Sutton has suggested that he wasn’t shocked to see Rangers appeal against the red card shown to Alfredo Morelos in the 4-2 win against Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

Morelos was handed his marching orders in the second-half after an incident with Scott McKenna, which also saw the Dons centre-back sent off, however the Daily Record has reported that the Gers have now appealed the decision.

Sutton clearly believes that it was a justified red card for Morelos in his reaction on his personal Twitter account.

He said: “Why wouldn’t they… anything seems to go in Scotland…”

OPINION

Rangers have surely just appealed against Morelos’ red card out of desperation. It was a clear red card for stamping his foot down on McKenna’s thigh and both players were rightly handed their marching orders. Allan McGregor should have also been sent off for a potential leg-breaker on Lewis Ferguson, so it’s not like the Gers have been hard-done by here – they won the game after all. Morelos is more than likely going to get a lengthy ban for yet another red card this season. He has been fantastic for Rangers and was one of the best players on the pitch at Pittodrie on Wednesday up until this incident. It gets to a point where he is a liability for the club. Morelos has the ability to be the best player in Scotland, but these kind of incidents bring him backwards and get him in the headlines for the wrong reasons. Luckily Jermain Defoe has shown he could be a good replacement for Morelos while he’s suspended, because there’s no way that the Scottish FA are going to reverse this decision.
