There is no doubting that money is the main driving force in football nowadays but it appears as though Celtic are able to offer something that a big money payday does not.

The Hoops were busy in the January transfer window, Brendan Rodgers bolstering his side at both ends of the pitch as they look to strengthen their grip on the Premiership title in the second half of the season.

Defender Jeremy Toljan was the last arrival to Parkhead, the defender arriving on loan from Borussia Dortmund in a deadline day move on Thursday, and considering the amount of injury problems suffered at the back he will be a welcome addition to help bolster the team.

Without an appearance for the Bhoys to his name yet, his first opportunity coming in Sunday’s clash against St Johnstone, the fans will no doubt be excited about seeing him in action for his debut – but a reveal from Rodgers will have him already high up in their esteems.

The manager told the Daily Record about how the 24-year-old has taken a pay cut to move to Glasgow and that sort of commitment to the cause will have the Parkhead faithful delighted.

He told the newspaper: “He is a player who has sacrificed his own wages and money to want to come here to play which shows a sign he is hungry to get his career back on track again.

“That says everything for me. It says everything in terms of wanting to get football and get playing. He recognises this is a big club which gives him the opportunity to do that.

“It is a great attitude to start with and I look forward to working with him. He is very quick, he is dynamic and he also gives us flexibility because he can play on both sides.”

That sort of attitude goes a long way to endearing yourself to fans and the Bhoys in Glasgow will already be liking the sound of what he has to offer their side.

A sterling start to his career at Celtic before he has played a single minute – hopefully his attitude off the pitch rubs off when he does join his new teammates in games.
