Everton have confirmed the departure of Tyias Browning to China.

The club made the announcement via their official Twitter account on Wednesday afternoon.

The defender, who has played nine times for the Toffees first team has left the club for an undisclosed fee to sign for Chinese Super League side Guangzhou Evergrande.

Browning spent last season on loan at Sunderland, making 29 appearances in all competitions.

OPINION

It’s perhaps no surprise that Browning has left Everton, but his destination is certainly a little left field. At 24, the former Englan youth international is at a point in his career where he needs to be looking for regular first team football if he has any ambitions of bettering himself, but has never truly looked as if he could make the breakthrough into being a mainstay for the Toffees. His case wasn’t helped by an indifferent spell at Sunderland last season, or by the arrivals of Kurt Zouma and Yerry Mina to Goodison Park over the summer, and it’s probably the right time for him to leave Merseyside. Going to China, however, is a very bold move from a young English player. There’s every chance that his salary will be eye-watering and that will no doubt have been a draw, but nonetheless, to move such a long way from home in pursuit of his career is a brave decision that should be commended.
