A UK football scout has heaped praise on Leeds 17-year-old Mateusz Bogusz after what he called a “standout” display against Newcastle for the Under-23s on Monday night.

Xander Wilkinson, who is a scout for an Eredivisie side and Level 2 in Talent ID for the Professional Football Scouts association, was at the game primarily to look at the Newcastle side.

However, in a long thread on the match, where he admits he was disappointed with Newcastle, Wilkinson said that Bogusz was the “standout player”.

“Standout player for me though was Mateusz Bogusz in just his second appearance in a Leeds shirt,” Wilkinson said. “Relentless energy in the No.10 role. Created space for himself with a number of clever third-man runs, constantly available between the lines, and won the ball back for the second goal.”

He then added a second tweet saying, “First impressions of him were fantastic. Look forward to seeing more of him. Not bad for 17.”

OPINION

The praise keeps rolling in for Mateusz Bogusz and it looks like Victor Orta has come up trumps again. Bogusz made his debut for the Under-23s last week and turned heads. And he was at it again last night in a brilliant team performance from the under-23s who dismantled Newcastle 3-1. He provided a brilliant assist for the second goal, setting up Ryan Edmondson, who was another standout on the day. if you watched the game it’s hard not to get excited about the Leeds youngsters. None of the regular first-team players played last night, for the first time in a long time, but you wouldn’t have known it. Hugo Diaz, Edmondson, Bogusz… all three of these players look like they could be considered for the first-team. Bogus is the most impressive when you consider this is only his second game in England. For someone so young to adapt so quickly, is a brilliant sign for the future.
