Image for BBC commentator aims dig at Leeds over Dan James

BBC Wales commentator Simon Davies has claimed that if Daniel James leave Swansea in the summer, it would be to join a “bigger club” than Leeds United.

James, 21, inspired Swansea to reach the FA Cup quarter finals on Sunday with a superb solo goal in their 4-1 win against Brentford at the Liberty Stadium.

The Wales international almost became a Leeds player in January before the Swans pulled the plug on a deadline day switch to Elland Road, even though the attacker had already undergone a medical.

And BBC man Davies now believes that the Whites have missed out on their chance to sign James, aiming a dig at the Yorkshire giants in the process.

“If James does leave Swansea in the summer, I genuinely think he could move to a bigger club than Leeds,” he said, via his personal Twitter account on Sunday night.

OPINION

Leeds fans will not like to hear that, especially when they widely consider themselves to be the “biggest” club in the Championship by some distance. Leeds might not be in the second-tier next season as they could definitely find themselves promoted back to the Premier League by the time the summer comes around. If that happens then yes, it may be harder for the Whites to sign James because there are more than likely going to be other top-flight clubs after the young Welshman. More established Premier League club would probably have a better chance of signing James, whereas Leeds would more than likely be seen as relegation candidates in their first season back in the big-time. Could James flourish for a team that is unlikely to have many attacking opportunities in the Premier League? Or would he be better suited to a team that is at the top-end of the Championship? Leeds will surely have another go at signing him in the summer, but who else will join the party?
