Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has revealed he was delighted to see his side exact revenge by thrashing Motherwell after the opposition’s controversial goal on Sunday afternoon.

The Hoops were leading the visitors 2-0 at Parkhead when the ball was kicked out to allow Ryan Christie to receive attention for an injury blow.

However, instead of returning the ball as expected, Motherwell launched a swift attack which led to the ball being poked past Bain in controversial circumstances.

Delivering a brutally honest verdict on the situation, Bain deemed their behaviour embarrassing and admitted his delight to see two late goals from his teammates to make it a comfortable scoreline.

He told the Scottish Sun: “It’s something I’ve never seen before and I’d honestly be embarrassed if I was one of them waking up this morning to get a goal like that.

“I thought he was surely just going to pass the ball back to me but he just kept coming and coming. To take the shot on and then their player to follow it up and score, it’s embarrassing.”

“They weren’t looking like scoring any other way in the game. I enjoyed the third and fourth goals, I’m not going to lie.”

Opinion

Bain was not the only one absolutely fuming with the decision from the Motherwell players and the Bhoys will feel that the visitors got exactly what they deserved with the two late goals. In all honesty the scoreline reflects how comfortable the Hoops were during the 90 minutes and you can imagine that Bain would have kept his clean sheet had it not been for their lack of sportsmanship. Celtic have the ability to punish any side in Scotland should they so wish and so it is not a wise idea to do anything that might get them all riled up. That was exactly what happened and you can be sure the Motherwell players have learned their lesson. This really has been a season of controversy in Scotland and every week never fails to disappoint with a new talking point. Fans will be wondering what on earth is going to happen next.
