Leeds United face Middlesbrough on Saturday at the Riverside, but their opponents could be without key strikers Britt Assombalonga and Jordan Hugill for the Championship showdown, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster claims that the duo are set for late fitness tests ahead of the fixture after going off in the FA Cup defeat to Newport County on Tuesday night.

Assombalonga has scored 11 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions this season while Hugill has netted seven in 27 total outings.

OPINION

Leeds have injury problems of their own to deal with but they will definitely take comfort in the fact that Tony Pulis’ side struggles to score goals with their key strikers involved, so they will be even less menacing in attack this weekend if they’re both ruled out. Leeds’ defence could do with keeping a clean sheet this weekend. They have conceded 18 goals in their last nine fixtures across all competitions, with just one clean sheet kept since mid-December’s 1-0 win at Bolton. Marcelo Bielsa’s backline is basically at full strength as well now that Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and Pontus Jansson are all available to play. Leeds’ issue at the moment seems to be their midfield more than anything and there are doubts that Pablo Hernandez and Mateusz Klich could play against Boro. It would be a major blow if they were not involved, perhaps more of a blow than it would be for Boro to be without Assombalonga and Hugill.
