Yaya Toure has confirmed that he will hold talks with Brendan Rodgers after being linked with a move to join Celtic.

Greek news outlet Gazzetta has reported that the Hoops will look to convince Toure, 35, to sign for them this month after he was made a free agent when he left Olympiakos in December.

Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, the former Manchester City star admitted that a move to Celtic Park could be on the cards.

“Celtic are a great team, but I will speak to Brendan Rodgers there and we will see what happens,” said Toure on Monday, when asked about speculation linking him with the Scottish giants.

OPINION

It would be some mighty coup if Rodgers is able to agree a deal with Toure. The midfielder may be 35-years-old, but he will definitely have something to offer to Celtic, who have had plenty of issues in their midfield this season due to injuries and players lacking form. You can see Toure coming in as a straight swap for Scott Brown, who is out of contract at the end of the season and has not been playing too well. The Ivorian is a powerhouse of a midfielder and even at his age he can still dominate games with his colossal presence, off-the-ball nous and passing ability. He probably lacks the pace that he once has, but Rodgers has players like Olivier Ntcham who can do a good job alongside Toure. The only issue for Celtic is that the ex-Barcelona player is bound to want massive wages. Celtic are unlikely to be happy with that so although Toure admits that a move could happen, it seems very unlikely.
