Noel Whelan gave it to Steve Lansdown with both barrels after the Bristol City owner called for a points deduction for Leeds after spygate.

Lansdown put the pressure on Leeds with the EFL investigation ongoing and said it was the only punishment that would make sense.

However, talking on the Noel Whelan Show (BBC Radio Leeds, Fri, 6pm) the former Leeds star had four words of advice for Lansdown that Leeds fans will love: “Wind your neck in”.

He followed up by taking Lansdown apart saying, “You should concentrate on your own club because you’re not doing that well at the moment. Maybe you should do a bit of spying yourself.”

Whelan also said that there won’t be a points deduction as “no rules have been broken”.

OPINION

This was completely classless by Bristol City owner Steven Lansdown. When Andrea Radrizzani complained about Wolves and financial fair play last season, he didn’t call for a points deduction. Whelan’s response is perfect – concentrate on your own club and try to work out why you’re not doing as well as Leeds. We don’t know much about Lansdown but perhaps he’s an absent owner who doesn’t really know much about football. He’s shown his lack of understanding of the game with these comments. How can a points deduction make sense when, as Whelan points out, no rules have actually been broken? The great thing is that we think all of these misguided comments against Leeds are going to galvanise them to play even better than they are at the moment. A bunker mentality – us against them – could play right into Leeds hands. We saw how they played against Derby after the spygate issue exploded last week. They were brilliant and they completely took Frank Lamaprd’s men apart. Just like Whelan did to Lansdown on BBC Radio Leeds tonight.
