Tottenham are waiting on Bolton to see if they are willing to do business for midfielder Luca Connell, according to Times journalist Paul Joyce.

The reporter claimed via his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Brighton and Southampton are also interested in the 17-year-old, who has started Bolton’s last two matches in the Championship and FA Cup.

The Daily Mail claimed via their live transfer blog [11.38am] on Tuesday that Spurs watched over Connell in the Championship clash against Reading this week and it is understood that cash-strapped Bolton could be forced to cash in on him due to his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

Good move for Tottenham?

Connell has been very impressive in his three senior appearances for Bolton this month.

He had never made a first team appearance in his career before coming off the bench in the 5-2 win against Walsall in the FA Cup third round at the start of the month, but has since emerged as one of the top young talents at the University of Bolton Stadium.

Connell is not just a midfielder but he can also play on the left-wing or at left-back.

Spurs should definitely try to sign the youngster as it seems he could be available on quite a cheap deal due to Bolton’s financial situation and his rapidly expiring contract.

Likely to happen?

Spurs are joined by Brighton and Southampton in the chase for Connell, and the teenager may see the two south coast clubs as being able to offer him an easier route to their first team.

Tottenham should be a big pull though considering how Dele Alli was plucked from the Football League and has since become one of the best midfielders in the country.

Bolton could be forced to sell but it seems that this one might rumble on until the summer when his contract runs out.
