How does Hugo Lloris own a comfortable spot in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting line-up for league games, because Paulo Gazzaniga has been superb whenever he has been called to play for Tottenham this season. Understandably, a section of Spurs fans were blown away by the Argentine for his display in between the sticks in the 1-0 win against Chelsea on Tuesday night in the Carabao Cup. He made top-class saves in each half to earn a clean sheet, something you can guarantee that Lloris would’ve struggled to keep. Whenever Gazzaniga plays, Spurs seem to win. You can’t win games if the defence has no faith in the goalkeeper and with Gazzaniga, there is someone who is playing almost flawlessly. Lloris’ spot in Pochettino’s Premier League plans must be under-threat. Fans will keep begging for Pochettino to axe the Frenchman and play the number-two, but you just know he won’t. All that’s stopping that change is surely the captain’s armband.
