Former England striker and broadcast pundit Chris Sutton was left drooling over the performance of Tottenham’s in the first half an hour against Cardiff as he predicts a demolition job for the Lilywhites.

Goals from Harry Kane, Christan Eriksen and Heung-min Son gave Mauricio Pochettino and his men a commanding lead in the opening 30 minutes against the Premier League strugglers, as the north London outfit looked to bounce back from the 3-1 defeat at home to Wolves.

Delivering his half hour verdict on the clash, Sutton insisted that Tottenham could be in for more goals if they continued to perform at the same high standards.

He wrote on his personal Twitter account: “3-0 Spurs… 27 minutes played …. this could be 9…”

Opinion

How Sutton would have loved to take the place of Harry Kane in this Tottenham squad when he was playing in his prime. On their day they look like scoring every time they move up towards the opposition’s goal and that was exactly what Cardiff had to endure in their first 45 minutes. The Bluebirds hardly saw the ball with Spurs dominating possession from the first minute and it is games like these which make Tottenham look like real candidates for the Premier League title. Of course this is a performance against a side who are languishing at the foot of the table and they need to perform like this against sides like Wolves, who managed to find a way to sink the Lilywhites at Wembley. With goal difference quite possibly a deciding factor, Spurs will be hoping that they can live up to Sutton’s expectations of nine goals on a regular basis – especially if it means sinking the hopes of their rivals at the top of the pile.
