Celtic fringe players Lewis Morgan and Jack Hendry will not be joining Sunderland in the January transfer window, according to Radio Clyde reporter Alison Conroy.

The reliable journalist suggested via her personal Twitter account on Thursday that Jack Ross has ruled out a move for the two Hoops players, who have both struggled to make an impact at Parkhead since being signed by Brendan Rodgers in 2018.

The Daily Mail has recently reported that Sunderland are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Hendry, 23, on loan this month while the Scottish Sun claimed in the summer that the Black Cats were eyeing up 22-year-old winger Morgan.

OPINION

Both players have really struggled since Celtic signed them last year and both of them could do with being loaned away from the club so that their development doesn’t hit a brick wall. Morgan has shown flashes of being capable of being a first team player for the Hoops in the future, but he seems a few years off that yet. He has only managed one start in all competitions since he arrived from St Mirren last year, so finding him a place to develop should be one of Rodgers’ priorities for this month. As for Hendry, the centre-back has had a lot more chances than Morgan to impress. The ex-Dundee defender has been very poor in his 25 total appearances for the Bhoys and it is pretty clear that he won’t ever be a regular first team player at Parkhead. Rodgers should try to get rid of Hendry permanently if he cannot find a club willing to take him on loan.
