Tottenham’s 20-year-old striker Kazaiah Sterling is not featuring for the Under-23s today at Norwich and has trained with the first-team instead ahead of the Premier League game against Fulham on Sunday.

This claim was made by Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold on his personal Twitter page on Friday afternoon.

Mauricio Pochettino is facing a striker crisis this weekend: Harry Kane is out injured for two months, Heung-min Son is away for the Asian Cup and Lucas Moura is still not fit.

OPINION

This is interesting news that comes on the back of rumours that 16-year-old Troy Parrott might be promoted to the first-team squad for Sunday’s game. Sterling is older and has actually made an appearance for Tottenham before, in the Champions League game against APOEL Nicosia in 2017. He has been in goal-scoring form for the Under-23s this season, with four goals in six games. Could he be set for the bench on Sunday as back-up for main striker Fernando Llorente? It shows how stretched the Tottenham squad is at the moment, and Pochettino won’t look back at the summer’s World Cup with any fondness. Of the 12 players in action from Tottenham, only two have managed to avoid subsequent injury this season. On the bright side, it will be great for some of Tottenham’s talented youth players to get a shot in the Premier League. Maybe Pochettino will unearth another star. We remember how Marcus Rashford made his explosive debut for Man United.
