Former Newcastle United striker and BBC Sport pundit Alan Shearer was left drooling over Wolverhampton Wanderers duo Diogo Jota and Ruben Neves after their performances in the win over Leicester City on Saturday.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men welcomed the Foxes to Molineux in a dramatic game filled with goals, the home side taking an early 2-0 lead before being pegged back to 2-2, the two sides netting once each before Jota completed his hat trick late on to seal a 4-3 victory.

Taking to his personal Twitter account to deliver an immediate post match verdict, Shearer heralded what he saw from the pair of Wolves stars, writing: “A brilliant hat-trick Diogo Jota on the end of some exquisite passing from Ruben Neves.”

Opinion

Everyone knew how dangerous Jota and Neves looked after their season in the Championship last year but it has taken the duo time to get into their stride. Now they have clicked and it was the Foxes who were made to suffer as they were dismantled by the quality on show from the Wolves duo. Time and again Neves used his expert passing to dissect the Leicester back line and Jota’s finishing, which has been suspect at times this season, was top drawer. If the pair can continue to perform at this standard for the rest of the season then who knows where Wolves are going to finish. This was an excellent performance against one of the club’s rivals in the hunt to finish as best of the rest and Nuno and his men will no doubt have their sights set firmly on that seventh place come the end of the season. As for Leicester, they need to regroup after a spirited performance, which was just let down by the quality of their defending.
