Jim White has talked to Jermain Defoe ahead of his sensational move to Rangers on an 18-month loan.

The deal is yet to be officially confirmed but it seems like it’s all but done.

Talking on talkSPORT on Friday morning, White said he was “raring to go.”

As quoted in the Daily Record, White said, “I’ve spoken to him this morning, he’s still down here.

“He is absolutely raring to go. He can’t wait to get started. He’s waiting on a call to go to Manchester for the medical this morning, personal terms have been agreed – the whole thing.

“I think it’s going to be sensational. He’s broken records everywhere.”

OPINION

Defoe isn’t your normal footballer. He proved that when he went over and above in his friendship with Bradley Lowery, who lost his battle with cancer. Now he’s set to show that money isn’t everything as he heads to Rangers to put the cherry on top of an incredible career that’s seen him bang gaols in for Tottenham and England. This isn’t some tired old gunslinger looking for one last big payoff, although he could have got that by the sounds of it with Premier League interest. He could have sat on the Bournemouth bench and took £100,000 a week. But Defoe wants to play and he wants to make himself a hero in Scotland. That’s exciting for Rangers fans and it’s exciting for any neutrals with an interest in Scottish football. It’s probably the most significant transfer since Craig Bellamy moved to Celtic. We can’t wait to see him in a Rangers shirt and we hope that he continues his marvellous career in style at Ibrox.
