Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has been left fuming over the reported lack of action taken against Alfredo Morelos in the aftermath of the Hoops’ Old Firm defeat to Rangers.

The Daily Record report on their website that the Colombian hitman will face no further action following the Gers’ 1-0 victory at Ibrox, despite having appeared to lash out on a number of occasions against the Hoops.

It is stated that the SFA looked at three incidents in the clash and that no punishment would be forthcoming, a decision which has Sutton incensed on his personal Twitter account.

He wrote: “Only in Scotland… This is shambolic… Kick and stamp and get let off… buffoonery of the highest order from the SFA…”

Opinion

Morelos is a very lucky man to escape with no sanctions, for he certainly seemed to let his disciplinary issues get the better of him against Celtic. As Sutton’s reaction shows, there will be plenty of individuals at Parkhead left tearing their hair out at seeing their local and title rivals keep their star man at their disposal after treading the line of the law. It is not the first time that the officials and the decisions made after the game have stolen the show and there really does need to be an investigation into the quality of refereeing in the Scottish top flight after several high profile incidents. Still, Rangers will be massively relieved to see Morelos ready for action after the winter break in Scotland and they will need him firing on all cylinders if they are to top the Hoops at the peak of the Premiership table. If he continues to behave like he has though, Steven Gerrard might have to do without him between now and the end of the campaign.
