BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage has riled up fellow broadcaster and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton as the two engage in a war of words following the Hoops’ derby day defeat against Rangers in December.

Ryan Jack’s goal was enough for the Gers to seal a hugely important three points at Ibrox in the last game of 2018 for both clubs, in a game where the Light Blues managed to dominate the Hoops in front of their own fans.

After Sutton took to Twitter to rage over Alfredo Morelos’ escape from retrospective punishment by the SFA, Savage poured salt on the wounds with a cheeky jibe, stating on his account: “Let it go Christopher you got beat should have been 5.”

This instigated a war of words between the two outspoken pundits, Sutton retaliating with an attack on Savage’s decision not to support his view, stating: “Poor from you Rob…No one has any issue with who was the better team…the example this sets for young up and coming players to think it’s ok to kick out and stamp…and you’re saying it’s fine what Morelos did??”

Opinion

This is exactly why fans of clubs not just in Scotland but from all over the UK love both Sutton and Savage. Their opinions might not be the popular ones but they certainly get people talking and you can be certain that Savage’s cheeky little response about how poor Celtic were at Ibrox ruffled Sutton’s feathers. They might come across as controversial for controversy’s sake but really Sutton and Savage are two former players who wear their heart on their sleeve and are not afraid to speak out on the issues in football today – no matter how trivial it might be. It is great to see the pair engaging in such lively debate away from the television screen and it shows that the spiky relationship the duo share extends beyond what fans see on matchday. There is no doubting that the duo respect each other too, but fans will be hoping to see more of this fiery relationship for years to come.
