Falkirk boss Ray McKinnon has heaped praise on Rangers young striker Zak Rudden after he was recalled from his loan stretch at the Championship club.

McKinnon is desperate to sign him on loan again and has said that the 18-year-old striker can emulate the career of Rangers legend Ally McCoist.

“He’s scored eight goals with a team that has been bottom all season,” McKinnon said in the Scottish Sun.

“Imagine him playing for Rangers in a couple of years with people setting up chances for him.

“He is a goalscorer, he needs to be in that six-yard box, like an Ally McCoist type. He just sniffs out goals.”

OPINION

High praise indeed from a man who’s been watching Rudden up close all season. The youngster has impressed a lot, scoring eight goals in 19 games and it would make sense to send him back there on loan for the second-half of the season. He’s obviously in a good place and despite making the bench for Rangers, he’s not going to get a sniff of the first-team this season. Jermain Defoe has just been added to the Rangers squad and he and Alfredo Morelos will be first-choice strikers with Kyle Lafferty as back-up. McKinnon has decided that a charm offensive is the best way to get him back and the comparison with Ally McCoist will put a big smile on Rudden’s face. Let him go back to Falkirk, let him build his confidence up and then take stock of him over the summer. He could be a genuine star for the future.
