Former Rangers winger Neil McCann has backed Glen Kamara to be a success at Ibrox, and has suggested that he could earn the Glaswegian club a fortune in the transfer market.

The ex-Dundee boss gave the Finn his opportunity in Scottish football 18 months ago by signing him from Arsenal on a free transfer.

Since then the 23-year-old has been a huge success, and McCann believes that he could make it at the highest level, insisting Rangers’ signing of him is something of a coup.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: “I’m not surprised in the slightest by the Rangers interest.

“I wouldn’t have been surprised if he had gone done south either as I’ve heard recently that the likes of Swansea, Cardiff, Sunderland and a few others have been looking at him. I wouldn’t be surprised if an English Premier League team took him either.

“Put it this way, his next move is not going to be his last move. Wherever he goes now he’s going to make that club an awful lot of money.

“I’ve been there so I know what it takes to play at a club like Rangers. If it was to be Rangers or any of the other clubs that have been mentioned, Glen could play there easily.”

OPINION

The Kamara deal looks to be all but tied up, and Rangers might just have pulled off another massive coup. Alongside the signings of Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, Kamara will bring a huge injection of quality into the squad. Prior to the Old Firm victory at the end of December, Rangers looked in serious danger of slipping behind Celtic in the title race but following the win at Ibrox, and the Gers’ full frontal assault on the transfer window, it feels as if the momentum might have just swung in their direction. If they can confirm the deals that they are being so heavily linked with, they will have a squad that looks every inch the title contender, and Celtic should be worried. In many respects, it is already the case that the Hoops have to respond to the work done by Steven Gerrard’s side. The second half of the season is going to be mouth watering.
