Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has admitted that the future of star striker Alfredo Morelos is out of his hands as a bid is reported inbound over the coming days from OGC Nice.

The Daily Record have stated that the French outfit are keen on snapping up the Colombian hitman after his 20 goals this season to replace Mario Balotelli, with an offer of £8million said to be on its way to Ibrox.

Gerrard has rebuffed the prospect of Morelos departing for such a lowly sum but confirmed that the final decision would be with those above him in Glasgow, taking the future of the striker almost out of his hands entirely.

He told the Daily Record: “An £8 million bid is disrespecting Alfredo first and foremost. He’s the top scorer in the league and there have been players who have gone for double that amount that don’t score as many goals as him.

“The board will have the final say. They will probably ask me and I’ll say either yes or no in my opinion. But the board own the club. Dave King owns it so he’ll have the final say.

“We don’t want to sell. The board don’t won’t to sell. But we totally respect Alfredo and his situation. I’ve been made aware that they are preparing an £8 million bid, but they are wasting their time.”

Opinion

Is this Gerrard trying to suggest that he would like more power as manager at Ibrox, or simply saying it how it is? Surely he should be the one to decide whether Morelos stays or goes for whatever the offer might be, telling the board to accept or reject the bid. It seems as though Dave King likes to keep a firm grip on things at Rangers but so far he has done a fantastic job when it comes to the running of the club, with Mark Allen and Gerrard in charge of the recruitment side of things. The future of Morelos is going to be a talking point every time that a transfer window comes around and it is slightly concerning to hear that Gerrard is not the one having the final say on things. After all, money talks and a big money bid might be too difficult for King to turn down, regardless of the impact it might have on the team. There is no need for Gers fans to worry just yet, but it is definitely something to keep in mind moving forward.
