Steven Gerrard has confirmed that both major new January signings, Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, will be involved in the friendly game against Helsinki on Sunday.

Rangers play the friendly in the middle of their international break and it will give fans their first glimpse of the two new players.

Gerrard was talking in his first pre-match press conference of the year and was quoted by the official Rangers Twitter account.

OPINION

Well, this is exciting news. Both Defoe and Davis will turn out for Rangers on Sunday and this will put a massive spotlight on what would otherwise be a meaningless game. It should get a number of fans over to Ibrox too, to see if Defoe can open his Rangers account straight away. We imagine he’ll get 45 minutes to show his stuff at Ibrox and we wouldn’t put it past him to open his account in style. We think he’s going to be a massive signing for Rangers and he could prove to be the difference between Rangers leapfrogging rivals Celtic and winning the Premiership title. Celtic fans might be forced to take an interest in the game on Sunday, although you probably wouldn’t find many who would admit it. They’v got to be scared at the prospect of Defoe coming up against Premiership defences in the second-half of the season.
