Celtic need to bring a right-back in before the transfer window slams shut in less than a week, and there’s the perfect candidate who’s in desperate need of a lifeline.

Man United’s Timothy Fosu-Mensah has had a torrid time on loan at Fulham, where he’s made just eight Premier League appearances this season, and is looking for an exit from the West London club.

He’s only played 34 minutes in the last 11 games and has been dropped from the squad entirely for the other 10.

He needs to leave to resurrect his career and ESPN (live transfer blog, Thurs, 16.04) claim that La Liga side Levante are plotting a move to land him on loan.

Celtic must move fast and try to steal him away before that happens. The towering 6ft 3in 21-year-old is a full Netherlands international and was once seen as one of United’s big hopes for the future.

His career is in danger of fizzling out though and he needs a lifeline – a slot in the Scottish champions’ side would be perfect for him.

Mikael Lustig’s time is up at Celtic and Christian Gamboa isn’t good enough.

Anthony Ralston is a good back-up option, but Celtic need a right-back as a priority and Fosu-Mensah would fit the bill perfectly.

He’s played 21 times for Man United and won the Europa League and the FA Cup with the Premier League giants.

He has every motivation to come to Celtic and prove he is as good as people once thought he was.
