Celtic have bid £4.3million for Lech Poznan right back Robert Gumny, according to Poznan Wyborcza.

The Polish outlet claims that the Hoops are interested in Gumny and are willing to pay £4.3million plus bonuses for the Poland U21 international.

The Scottish champions have likely identified the 20-year-old as a potential long term replacement for current right back Mikael Lustig, who has struggled at times this season.

Good move of Celtic?

Obviously Celtic do need to source a replacement for Lustig sooner or later. The Sweden star has been a fine servant to the club but it’s become clear this campaign that his best days are behind him. Whether Gumny is that man remains to be seen. It’s a bit of a strange one because he’s quite young, so likely has potential, but he has suffered with injury problems so far this season. He’s made just five league appearances. Obviously you don’t want to bring a new right back in to replace Lustig only for Gumny to wind up injured all the time. £4.3million isn’t a lot to pay, but it’s not nothing for a club like Celtic either. For that sort of money you’d want to be sure that you’re getting a reliable player, so this one is a bit up in the air.

Likely to happen?

It all depends on Poznan’s stance on the player and whether Brendan Rodgers’s side can come to an agreement with them. The report states Gumny is Celtic’s number one choice at right back, though, so you’d think they’ll manage to get a deal done.
