OPINION
Celtic are closing in on a pre-contract deal for 23-year-old Wolves defender Dominic Iorfa, according to the Daily Mirror, but fans are in two minds about the potential move.
The Mirror’s live transfer blog (Monday January 21, 11:50am) claimed the 6ft 2in tall right-back (Source: Transfermarkt) was close to sealing a deal with Celtic, with his contract up in the summer.
The report says it would be a summer move, with the player arriving as a free agent but many Celtic fans don’t think he’s any better than who they currently have at right-back (although it’s worth pointing out that Mikael Lustig has come in for serious criticism from fans this season).
Some fans are saying they should give the player a chance and not destroy him before he’s even arrived, but his stats aren’t great.
He spent last season on loan at Ipswich where he made 25 league appearances, but he was dropped from the squad for the last 10 games of the season.
And the 23-year-old hasn’t played for Wolves this season. It doesn’t spell major signing but he’s young and could offer Celtic some quality in depth.
That’s not really the sort of player that Celtic fans want though, with the January transfer window closing and supporters nervous about the business that Rangers have done.

Shouldn’t we be looking at someone like Doherty though? This Iorfa was on loan at Ipswich and Wolves have wanted rid for 18months. Their fan pages want rid of him as well.

Probably worth a shot on a pre-contract if we’re punting Lustig and Gamboa. You’d like to think we’re in the market for someone more experienced as well as Iorfa but ye never know with Celtic.
