Andy Walker believes that Rangers selling striker Alfredo Morelos in the remaining days of the transfer window will dash their hopes of winning the title.

The Sky Sports pundit described the Gers’ star asset as “marvellous” whilst reinforcing just how important he is for boss Steven Gerrard and the club due to him being a “team player.”

However, he adds that it will not be Gerrard’s decision to sell the attacking ace, saying that if the club receive an offer that is high enough, the Gers will have no choice but to cash in on him.

“If you sell Morelos, you sell your chances of winning the title. He’s the top scorer in Scotland, he’s got a marvellous attitude to scoring goals, working as a team player,” he told Sky Sports.

“He’s so important for Steven Gerrard. In the end, it will not be Gerrard’s decision, if there is a bid that is big enough, then Rangers as a club will sell. That’s why managers want to get this January transfer window out of the way so that they can concentrate on the games in hand.”

OPINION

Walker is absolutely right here – selling Alfredo Morelos would be the biggest mistake Rangers could make. Yes, if the right bid came in then that would be very tempting – but why would they rather cash in on him with a high offer then keep him and keep their title bid alive? He is pivotal to their success, and his lack of presence is definitely felt when he is not on the pitch, something which has already been demonstrated this season. Rangers are less potent in front of goal when he is not around, and that is particularly concerning for the team if the club greenlight his exit this month. One thing is for sure, he is the one player that they should not be getting rid of. Many fans would be in uproar if this did happen, as like Walker pointed out, their chances of winning the title will just go down the drain.
