Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that captain Scott Brown has met chief executive Peter Lawwell as he decides upon his future.

The Scotland international midfielder is the subject of heavy interest from Australia, with new A-League franchise Western Melbourne keen on making him their marquee signing.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Hoops’ Premiership clash v Hamilton, Rodgers has now confirmed that a meeting has taken place between Brown and Lawwell, with a decision on his exit imminent.

As quoted by the Daily Record [14:40], he said: “Scott spoke to Peter, they had a meeting there but there is nothing to add to it. We will let you know in time.”

OPINION

It looks like Brown has likely made a decision on his future, and is in the process of informing the relevant people at Celtic. There has been no indication on his part whether he will stay or leave, and at the moment it looks like it could go either way. Brown is obviously revered at Parkhead for the prominent role he has played during so many years of unbridled success. However, there are several younger midfielders now coming through under Rodgers, and there is the argument that Brown is not an automatic starter anymore. That may have caused him to think hard about his future amid an offer from Western Melbourne, who are extremely keen to secure his services. The life on offer in Australia will obviously appeal to Brown, with a nice pay package and several other benefits being offered by the A-League side. Either way, it will soon become clear what he has decided.
