Newcastle United should make a move to sign Tottenham outcast Vincent Janssen, according to the Telegraph journalist Luke Edwards.

According to a report from his outlet, third-placed Spurs are willing to listen to offers of around £12 million for the Dutchman in an attempt to offload him this January.

Writing on his own personal Twitter account, Edwards, who is the Telegraph’s dedicated North East sports reporter, retweeted the article, adding: “Newcastle should be having a look at this.”

OPINION

Sometimes a player and a club are just incompatible, and that appears to be the case with Tottenham and Vincent Janssen. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the 24-year-old is no good, it just means that the conditions of the side do not suit him, and in those instances the best thing to do is to cut him loose and take the money. Janssen is a top quality goalscorer, he proved that during his time in the Netherlands and his loan spell with Fenerbahce last season, but any striker going to Spurs is almost set up to fail. Nobody is getting in ahead of Harry Kane, it’s that simple, and so those beneath him in the pecking order have to settle for scraps and cameos, and hope that they can perform in the odd few minutes they are given here and there. It’s almost impossible for a striker to establish any kind of form or rhythm in these circumstances, and so it’s no wonder that Janssen is being pushed out of the exit door. Given enough time and minutes, however, he could still prove to be a real player for most Premier League sides. Newcastle need a forward, Spurs are looking to sell one, and if there is any sense, the two will find some kind of agreement – ‘if’ being the operative word .
