Harry Redknapp has revealed that former club Tottenham were interested in signing Christian Pulisic, but were priced out of a move for the USMNT international.

The 20-year-old signed for the Blues in a deal worth around £58million.

The ex-Spurs also suggested that his old side will not make any signings in the January transfer window.

Mauricio Pochettino was unable to add to his squad over the summer either.

Speaking on talkSPORT, as quoted in the Express, Redknapp said: “I’ve got a feeling, I don’t think they will [sign anybody].

“I heard they were interested in the boy who went to Chelsea [Pulisic].

“He was on their radar but was too expensive.

“I think they will stick with what they’ve got.”

OPINION

If Redknapp is to be believed and Spurs were interested in signing Pulisic then it’s another indication of the financial tethers that are holding the club back from winning the Premier League. Obviously every side has their limitations, and it’s better that Tottenham exercise caution instead of overdoing things and putting themselves at risk, but Pulisic would have been a player iwht the potential to repay his transfer fee massively. Not only does he have the potential to be a top class player, who would surely have flourished under Pochettino, but he arguably represents the first ever major transfer of an American player, certainly to the Premier League, far eclipsing that of Clint Dempsey or Tim Howard. If he can establish himself as a key player for Chelsea he could open up a whole new market for the club that could be hugely profitable for the Blues. Spurs may have missed a trick by being so conservative.
