Rangers have launched a bid to sign Derby County midfielder Craig Bryson, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper has claimed that Gary McAllister has convinced Steven Gerrard to try and sign up the 32-year-old, who is out of contract in the summer.

It is understood that negotiations are underway to sign the Scotland international on a free transfer this month.

Good move for Rangers?

Does Gerrard really need another midfielder adding to his side?

Steven Davis has been snapped up from Southampton this month while there are reports that Glen Kamara could also arrive earlier than scheduled after previously agreeing a pre-contract deal for the summer.

Bryson is a decent player and has been a regular for Derby County this season, but the chances of him getting a game must be low based on how the Gers midfield has played recently.

Likely to happen?

Derby chairman Mel Morris is reportedly keen to trim down the club’s wagebill, so there is a good chance that the Championship club could cut their losses on Bryson and let him go now for free, rather than in the summer for free.

He has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season, but has been an unused substitute in the last two league games.

Frank Lampard could be willing to do business with his old England team-mate Gerrard.
