Rangers are on the hunt for another signing but their plans have taken a surprise u-turn, according to reliable blog site Four Lads Had a Dream.

The blog, with close links to Rangers, made the claim in their latest article.

They claimed that one transfer report that had substance was about Charlton striker Karlan Ahearne-Grant, available as a free agent in the summer.

Four Lads claimed that Rangers have watched him and Steven Gerrard was due to watch him personally last Saturday.

However, Four Lads said, “This changed when Gerrard, Andy Scoulding and Mark Allen made a mystery trip to meet a new target. Who, where or what that entailed remains a secret for the moment but it is heartening to know plans are at an advanced stage.”

OPINION

This is a very interesting development. The new mystery target hasn’t been named but it would seem to be a striker, if the interest has led to cooling in Karlan Ahearne-Grant. He would have been a very good signing for the summer and was said to have been a possible replacement for Alfredo Morelos if he was sold. Four Lads talk about the plans being at an advanced stage and the fact that Gerrard, Scoulding and Allen are all involved in the new target makes it sound like it could be a significant deal. The Rangers recruitment team has been on the boil this January and more and more players seem keen to join up with Gerrard and his Ibrox revolution. The same articles denies claims that Rangers are picking up anywhere near half the wages of Jermain Defoe, saying it’s “mere pennies” on the scale of his salary. That shows just how attractive a place it is to play at the moment. And that, more than anything else, should have Celtic fans worried.
