OPINION
Celtic are reportedly closing in on the signing of American left-back Andrew Gutman, and understandably, it has got a section of Rangers fans talking as the 22-year-old was on trial at Ibrox not too long ago. The Scottish Sun has reported that Gutman has agreed a deal with the Hoops, however he still requires a work permit to finalise his switch to Parkhead. It is odd that Celtic would try to sign Gutman. The left-back is 22, but never made a senior appearance for any club in his life. He was playing college-level football in the USA last year, and clearly didn’t do enough on trial at Rangers to impress Steven Gerrard. Is Brendan Rodgers just signing Gutman in the hope that his deal works out and they can rub it in the Gers’ faces? Rangers fans don’t seem to mind too much about this transfer anyway. It’s not like he’s going to be anywhere near the Bhoys’ first team anytime soon.
